A Village, Rebuilt in the UK

ZIVA is not a charity. ZIVA is not insurance. ZIVA is not a business.

ZIVA is a village — rebuilt in the UK. It is the sound of people saying "matambudziko ndeedu tese" — we are here with you, we are here for you.

"ZIVA started with a simple WhatsApp group in 2020. Within hours, hundreds of Zimbabweans joined — strangers who felt like family. They didn't ask for forms. They didn't ask for proof. They simply said: 'Tell us who needs help.'"

We are the modern expression of Chema — traditional support without shame or punishment, adapted for the diaspora. From Hinckley to Loughborough, Leicester to Coalville, Derby and Nottingham, ZIVA has stood beside every grieving family — collecting freely given contributions from our community and passing them on in full.

Dignity

Transparency
Open in all our dealings
Integrity
Doing what's right, always
Ubuntu
Stronger together than apart
Compassion
No one is left behind

Simple. Fair. Human.

ZIVA combines traditional Zimbabwean values with modern structure. No fixed subscriptions — we use the More Hands, Less Weight principle. The larger the group, the less each person pays and the more each family receives.

The Two-Strike Rule

Strike 1: One missed contribution is understandable. We reach out to check if you need support.  |  Strike 2: Removal from digital register, though minimum Chema support continues.  |  Re-Entry: Members can rejoin as Level 2. ZIVA will never completely abandon you — Ubuntu means no one is left behind.

The ZIVA Kumusha·Ekhaya Shield
Global Kinship & Social Fund

Home is not just where you live. It's where your heart is. The Kumusha Shield was introduced in response to a member poll — because many of us have parents in Harare, siblings in Johannesburg, cousins in Toronto. When the 2am call comes, you should not face it alone or unprepared.

🌍 What Is the Kumusha Shield?

A unified standing order that gives you two things: a Social Fund for quarterly Zimbabwe-culture events (you attend free), and a Kinship Shield — a pre-built bereavement grant for nominated loved ones anywhere in the world. Not just Zimbabwe. Anywhere.

  • Register up to 4 nominees per member registration
  • Bereavement grant currently up to £600, growing toward £1,800 as membership grows
  • £1 per month to the Social Fund — free entry to all ZIVA events
  • No collection on event nights — just show up and be welcomed
  • Available worldwide — Zimbabwe, South Africa, Canada, anywhere

📋 How the Nominee System Works

  • Register up to 4 blood relatives or chosen family as nominees
  • Nominees are fixed — no swapping based on who is currently ill
  • 6-month shielding period before a claim is eligible
  • When a claim is paid, that slot refills — your shield never permanently shrinks
  • If any nominee is aged 75+, the Senior Tier applies (+£1/month)
⚠️ Important: The Kumusha Shield is available by standing order/direct debit only. Members can pause and rejoin within the terms and conditions. This does not replace your existing ZIVA UK grant — it is completely additive.

🎉 The Social Fund

Your £1/month Social Fund contribution builds a permanent budget for quarterly, fully catered, Zimbabwe culture-themed events. Subscribers attend at no additional cost. No collection. No envelope. Just show up.

  • Quarterly events nationwide — food, music, storytelling
  • Connecting our community beyond times of grief
  • Mental health through gathering and shared heritage

💰 Monthly Subscription Tiers

Two clean tiers. Each member registration covers up to 4 nominees and is set by the age of the eldest nominee.

Standard Tier
Up to 4 nominees · all under 75
£2/mo
£1 Social + £1 Shield
Senior Tier
Up to 4 nominees · any aged 75+
£3/mo
£1 Social + £2 Shield
For couples: Each partner registers independently, with their own 4 nominees and their own standing order. This keeps records clean, ensures every contributor is recognised individually, and allows each partner to manage their own family-side nominations.

How the Grant Is Funded

The grant equals the total Kinship Shield contributions accumulated over three months. Right now that is up to £600; as our membership grows toward 600 subscribers, the grant grows toward £1,800. The fund is always building — it is never empty. A Statutory Reserve from Social Fund surplus absorbs claim spikes.

🛡️ Opt In to the Kumusha Shield

Complete the registration form below. An admin will be in touch within 5 working days to confirm details and set up your standing order. Do not start any payments until your registration is approved.
